The Hug’s Sisters Story

COMBRAY is home to sisters Laure and Aurélie Hug, two creative minds working hand in hand, collaborating with leading designers. 

Founded in 2013, COMBRAY is steeped in our combined backgrounds – historical decoration and textile craftsmanship. Our designs draw from the extreme finesse and traditional savoir-faire learned throughout our lives. We work hand in hand to imagine and produce striking, bespoke embroidery, mural paintings and interior embellishments. We infuse our works with timeless elegance and are deeply influenced by our French heritage. The art of embroidery serves as our medium for storytelling, embodying both the intricate craftsmanship of the past and the imaginative expression of the present. Each embroidery motif we create becomes a narrative woven into the fabric of a space.

Our bespoke, handmade pieces resonate with the individuality of our clients, and reflect the slow, intentional process of design, honoring the unique story each client wishes to tell through their interiors. Our notable collaborations with prestigious names like Tiffany’s and Le Crillon, Robert Couturier, Kelly Wearstler, Pembrooke & Ives, underscore our commitment to quality and artistry.

Laure Hug

Laure holds a Master’s degree in Art History from La Sorbonne and leads the research department at Combray. Laure and Aurelie collaborate on all the creative aspects of the company. Based in France, Laure divides her time between Paris and her countryside home, striking a balance between nature and culture.

Aurelie Hug

After graduating in interior and furniture design from École Camondo in Paris, Aurélie moved to New York to work with Muriel Brandolini, where she discovered a deep passion for textiles. Her keen understanding of upholstered pieces and custom interiors makes her a valuable resource for designers looking to bring their vision to life. Aurélie now leads the New York studio, where she thrives on the creative energy of each project that comes her way.

The Studio

COMBRAY emerged from the shared love for the arts of textile and interior design of Parisian sisters Laure and Aurelie Hug.  The two sisters decided to combine their backgrounds in Interior Design and Art History and launched COMBRAY in 2013. Since then, the studio has collaborated with the foremost decorators, interior design firms and private homeowners to create unique textiles that give spaces an original and personal feel.

COMBRAY specializes in custom designs of hand-embroidered motifs and textures for high-end decoration. Rooted on the values of traditional savoir-faire, the studio constantly reinvents the ancestral art of embroidery by seamlessly integrating traditional and contemporary influences. Each one of COMBRAY’s creations is tailored to complement individual projects, adding a unique layer of sophistication to any decor.
